Research, Problem Solving, and Product Development

The competent teacher will use computers and other technologies in research, problem solving, and product development. The competent teacher will appropriately use a variety of media, presentation, and authoring packages; plan and participate in team and collaborative projects that require critical analysis and evaluation; and present products developed.

Rationale

For this particular standard, I chose to use an iMovie I made with a group of classmates for my CI 404 class. The project required that we research a certain discipline method, create a script, story board, then finally film and develop a movie as our final product. We employed a few different forms of media, including live action filming and on screen text to get our information across.

This artifact also demonstrates my ability to use presentation and authoring packages (the iMovie application) to create and present a project with a team in an effectie collaborative manner.

In terms of how this has helped me to grow as an educator, I feel that any experience with peer collaboration is beneficial to my effectiveness as a teacher. Additionally, I now know how to use the iMovie application; a knowledge I will be able to bring into my classroom to teach my students how to use digital film editing software. This will also be a means of giving students a chance to produce meaningful and creative projects to enhance their educational experience.
