Personal and Professional Use of Technology

The competent teacher will apply tools for enhancing personal professional growth and productivity; will use technology in communicating, collaborating, conducting research, and solving problems and will promote equitable, ethical, and legal use of computer/technology resources.

Rationale

To meet this standard, I chose to use the group iMovie project I worked on about the assertive discipline method. During this project, my group used the internet to research our assigned method. We then used the iMovie application to collaborate and communicate our findings with the rest of our class. Additionally, this project meets the ethical and legal use of computer/technology resources because we made sure to follow all policies regarding such usage of filmed footage, music, and software. By using these resources in their intended manner, the group project also served to promote such legal usage.

This iMovie artifact has helped contribute to my development as a professional by allowing me to learn about and experience a specific theory of discipline. Additionally, it gave me an opportunity to work in a group in order to create something unique and informative. Finally, the project gave me some exposure to another project alternative that I could use in my classroom, depending on the level of access I will have to technology. I would be able to teach my students important technological skills, including, but not limited to, filming, uploading, and editing digital movies while still helping them to use these new skills in a productive, academically-related or oriented task.
