Hi, I'm Erin, and I teach English. This portfolio chronicles my educational accomplishments. You can e-mail me at ekkross@gmail.com.

The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.

I used these particular review lesson plans and the supplemental PowerPoint presentation to help my students prepare for their upcoming test over the book, The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. These lesson plans reflect my ability to incorporate varied tools to cater to the wide range of learning styles and needs in a single classroom. The combination of the two day review, PowerPoint presentation, and the students' own work in class makes these lesson plans and presentation appropriate demonstrations of my ability to create instructional opportunities that are adapted to the diverse learners I encountered in this classroom.

In order to better prepare my students for their test, I utilized multiple teaching methods so that I could address the diverse learning needs of my students. I combined lecture, visual aids, class discussion, individual work, writing, and reading all in the same lesson so that students who struggle with retaining information presented in a lecture format, could rely more heavily on the PowerPoint presentation as their main source of information. Similarly, those students who learned better by doing rather than listening or seeing, were given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills during class discussion and individual prompted writing.
